How to use MatchPay at Bovada Sportsbook

Bovada is the one US-facing sportsbook we could confirm has MatchPay in its cashier. This is the whole route, from linking a MatchPay account to getting a winning ticket back into your Venmo or Zelle, with the rules Bovada puts in its help centre rather than its banners.

In Bovada's cashier, MatchPay is a marketplace, not a processor. A deposit becomes an Order to buy another player's credit; a withdrawal becomes an Offer to sell yours. The money moves between the two of you through PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, Apple Pay, Chime or Cash App, and only the credit moves between Bovada accounts5. Your MatchPay account is tied to your Bovada account and "cannot be used for outside trades"5.

Who can use MatchPay at Bovada

Bovada's terms bar these states and DC outright, and say any balance in an account accessed from one of them "may be considered void"6:

  • DE
  • MD
  • NJ
  • NV
  • NY
  • MI
  • CO
  • DC
  • CT
  • WV
  • OH
  • KS
  • PA
  • LA
  • MA
  • TN
  • AZ
  • NH
  • VT
  • RI

The terms set 18 as the minimum age, and also say you may not use the site if you are under the legal age where you live or are playing from6. Where your state sets 21, that is your minimum. The sports welcome bonus page adds that bonuses are "intended for U.S. based recreational bettors only"7.

Bovada's footer reads: "Bovada.lv is licensed and regulated by the Union of the Comoros and the Central Reserve Authority of Western Sahara." It does not claim a licence from any US state6. Michigan's Gaming Control Board called Bovada.com and Bovada.lv "illegal online gaming sites" in May 2024 and sent its operator a cease-and-desist letter8. Not being on Bovada's restricted list does not make it legal where you are. Check your state's laws before you open an account.

Set up MatchPay from Bovada's cashier

You create the MatchPay account inside Bovada's cashier the first time you choose it9:

  1. Pick MatchPay. In the cashier, choose MatchPay from your payment methods and click "Join Now" in the window that opens.
  2. Enter your details. First and last name and date of birth, a case-sensitive username, and the email address registered to your Bovada account.
  3. Add your phone. MatchPay texts you when a trade comes up, which Bovada says improves your chance of a faster match. Then set a case-sensitive password.
  4. Verify twice. Enter the SMS code after clicking "Create Account", then click the activation link MatchPay emails you (check spam).

Deposit for a bet

  1. Open the cashier. Click the profile icon at the top of any page, then Deposit, then MatchPay4.
  2. Create an Order. Log in to MatchPay, click "Create Order", enter the amount and tick every payment app you have. More apps means more possible matches4.
  3. Wait for a seller. MatchPay notifies a seller by email or text and "will cycle through your matches until a seller responds"4.
  4. Pay only the handle in the trade chat. Send the money through the app the trade names, to the details shown in MatchPay's trade window, within the 8-minute payment window10.
  5. Credit lands. When the seller confirms, the credit is converted to USD in your Bovada balance and you can bet5.

Three things on Bovada's deposit page matter on a busy betting day4:

  • Depending on account status, MatchPay deposits "may be limited to three attempts per day".
  • Zelle trades "can ONLY be processed on business days"; a weekend or holiday Zelle trade waits for the next business day.
  • If MatchPay finds no match, you are asked to add payment methods or go back and change the amount.

The sports welcome bonus catch

Bovada's MatchPay deposit page is blunt: "Bonuses are not available for MatchPay deposits unless otherwise specified in the bonus description, this includes our Welcome and Refer-a-Friend Bonuses."4 Here are the sports offers as Bovada published them on 4 October 202611:

Bovada sports welcome bonuses (4 Oct 2026)
BonusAmountMatchMax depositRolloverWith MatchPay?
Sports Welcome Bonus$25050%$5005xNo
Crypto Sports Welcome Bonus$75075%$1,0005xNo (crypto deposits only)

The $250 bonus "can only be redeemed on your FIRST DEPOSIT". Its 5x rollover applies to the deposit and the bonus together, and in the sportsbook a winning bet counts the lesser of your risk or your win, while a losing bet counts your full risk7. While a bonus is active, a single sports bet may not exceed 50% of the deposit, bonus funds cannot go on sports futures, and the deposit has to be at least $20 to trigger it12.

Withdraw winnings by MatchPay

  1. Request it. Profile icon, then Withdraw, then MatchPay. The amount leaves your Bovada balance and, once approved, is held in reserve13.
  2. Create an Offer. In MatchPay, enter how much of that credit to sell (all of it or part), tick the apps you can receive on, and click Create13.
  3. Accept a buyer. You have 5 minutes to accept or decline the match10.
  4. Check your app, then confirm. The buyer has 8 minutes to pay; you then have 5 minutes to confirm. Confirm only when the money is actually in your account: a "Pending" or "Processing" Zelle or Chime payment has not arrived10,14.

The limits that shape a big payout2,13,15:

  • $2,000 maximum per MatchPay withdrawal, $10 minimum.
  • At most two MatchPay withdrawals in 24 hours. A third request in that window "will remain pending until 24 hrs have passed from the time of your first Matchpay withdrawal".
  • "All deposits must be wagered completely before any winnings can be withdrawn", or the withdrawal can be cancelled and returned to your balance.
  • MatchPay credit can't be sent straight to a bank account. It only leaves through a trade5.

So a $6,000 win means three requests over two days at best. The payout planner on our home page works out any amount.

MatchPay or another payout route?

For small and mid-sized wins MatchPay is quick once a buyer turns up. For a large ticket, Bovada's crypto options have far higher ceilings. These are Bovada's published withdrawal limits2:

Bovada withdrawal methods (4 Oct 2026)
MethodMin to maxHow oftenStated time
MatchPay$10 to $2,0002 per calendar dayInstant (once a buyer pays)
Bitcoin (BTC)$75 to $9,5001 every 15 minutes; $90,000 a weekUp to 24 hours after approval
Litecoin (LTC)$10 to $9,5001 every 15 minutes; $180,000 a week1 hour after approval
Bitcoin Lightning$10 to $10,000$25,000 a dayNot stated
Voucher$10 to $3,000No limitInstant
Check by courier$250 to $3,0001 per 7 days10 to 15 business days
Bank wire$1,500 to $9,5001 per 30 days10 to 15 business days

On the deposit side, MatchPay's $10 to $2,000 compares with $20 to $1,500 for cards and $50 to $450 for a direct bank transfer1. Only your first card deposit is fee-free; later ones carry a fee of "15.9% or higher"16, which is the cost MatchPay avoids. Bovada pitches MatchPay as a way to "avoid credit card restrictions"3.

Changed your mind about a withdrawal?

If the credit is still in your MatchPay "Available Credit" and is at least $20, you can put it back: choose MatchPay as the deposit method, enter part or all of the amount, and log in to MatchPay. The deposit is taken from your MatchPay balance automatically17.

Where Bovada's own pages disagree

  • Which apps. "What is MatchPay?" lists six apps5, the deposit page five (no Chime)4, and the withdrawal page four (no Apple Pay or Chime)13. Go by what MatchPay offers you in the trade.
  • Trade size. The limits tables say $10 to $2,0001,2, and so does MatchPay's FAQ10. Bovada's "Best Practices" page still says "The minimum amount to trade is $20 and the maximum is $1000"14.
  • How often. The withdrawal-limits table says 2 per calendar day2; the withdrawal article says 2 within 24 hours of your first request13. Plan on the stricter, rolling 24 hours.

Scams to watch for

Bovada's help centre has a page on peer-to-peer scams. It warns of people impersonating Bovada staff who ask you to cancel a withdrawal and send the funds to a specific username, and says Bovada "will never request that you transfer funds to a specific player username" or ask for your password18. MatchPay's own rules add: never send money to details that were not shared in the trade chat, and ignore anyone claiming to be a moderator, because moderators are never part of a trade10.

If a trade goes wrong, click "Report a Problem" in the trade. MatchPay support reviews the trade and chat, decides "at the sole discretion" of its team in about 48 hours, and "all resolutions are final"19. The troubleshooting table in our how-to covers each stuck-trade case.
